I'm working on a project that started about two years there.
At the time were only still images in VRay, I am now doing videos on Lumion.

A good opportunity to compare the quality.
It is quite certain that VRay melhou this period, but look how Lumion is good.
Just lost in reflection.

Videos preliminary.
Quality 1 star.
0.5 seconds per frame 1080p
Fish-eye filter

Thank you.

I'm hoping to do Lumion real reflection, so all my images will be made in Lumion.

Wonder what it will look like then in 3 Star.

What level of quality are the VRay renders set to?

Presume image 1 is VRay and image 2 is Lumion?

So this issue about reflections, I don't quite get.  If you look at the vases they are much better in image 2 (Lumion) than in image 1.

The floor does not have the same reflection levels as in VRay, but tweaking the Glossy and other Material settings as well as upping the rendering quality will change that as well, yes?

Ignoring mirror based reflections, can you help me out to understand where relfections are missing in Lumion, thanks.

Hello Peter

Mirrors are very common in architectural images.
As in this case, the same project. There is a whole wall of mirrors.

I dont agree that the reflections look better on the Lumion image.
There is less specular bloom but the reflections themselves dont make any sense whatsoever. You can see the elevatordoor in the 2 glass bowls for instance where bowl nr2 should reflect at least parts of bowl nr1. But ok, we all know reflections in Lumion are not its forte  Grin This would be an ideal scene for DX11 SSR, perhaps with 2 cubemaps. Still, I think the Lumion image looks very cool.

Please don't compare Lumion to Vray  Wink

I think you're missing the point with that remark. Of course you should compare Lumion with Vray. As long as it's based on valid, achievable shortcomings that would close the gap between the 2.

Example1:

Lumion should have a unbiased rendermode with brute force GI and linear ouput.
Now, that would be silly.

Exampe2:

Can't wait for Lumion to have better reflections (even if it's local cubemaps to begin with)
and 1 bounce GI so it can at least start to approximate crude Vray output in Realtime.
Totally achievable! The best thing yet: it's coming.

The only way is up.
Up is Vray quality.
Compare the hell out of it I'd say Wink

The videos were made using 1 star 1080p.
interpolated to 720p in MovieMaker.

The still image is rendering normal.

Hi Gilson
Thanks for nice presentation and comparisons -- very good job

Aaron: Sometimes I wish Ferry would license Thea's unbiased engine from Giannis so we could also produce top-notch stills right within Lumion, with Lumion entourage.  Grin

But I'll be happy with just planar reflections + local cubemaps... for now.

BTW, how can you be so sure that 1-bounce GI is coming to Lumion?

In the context of reasonable expectations this one would rank quite high don't you think?
That and the fact that, since last year, there have been several on-topic comments made
by the Devs that they are indeed working on a stable implementation for it Smiley

So image 1 is VRay and image 2 is Lumion?

So image 1 is VRay and image 2 is Lumion?

This should help:

I think even if its Vray it doesnt look very realistic here. SO its easy to get same stuff done in lumion faster.
But often it doesn't have to! A lot clients are pleased with the shown quality here.
At the moment I rendering such a project myself. It has to be realistic but not at all costs.

Know your project. Know what client exspects. Choose the right tool. Finish in time. Please client.  Maximize profit. So easy it is! Wink
