It's probably unlikely to be a hardware issue, but just to be on the safe side, could you download and install FurMark and then run the Burn-in test? http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/Your GTX 570 should be able to run it without any problems/visual glitches.

Hi Morten,
Lumion recently saved my file, then crashed. Windows created some sort of log file named WERCA81.tmp.hdmp. The file is 214MB? Which seems pretty large. Would this file provide you with any insights as to what caused the problem? If so, should I put it in my dropbox for you to look at?

Yes please (says Ferry).
Did you get a chance to run FurMark yet?

Hi Morton,
Yes, I ran FurMark. My computer seemed to run quietly and smoothly during the test.
Result attached - though I'm not sure what it all means. At least it didn't crash.
I have sent a link to my dropbox to Arthurs email. It contains the windows .hdmp file which Ferry can have a look at. The file was created when Lumion crashed immediately after saving a file. I then had to do a forced shutdown.
Hopefully it contains some valuable information. Maybe my computer needs a service - a burial service.

Hi Derek, thanks for running FurMark and for uploading the dump file (please don't delete the file yet). Ferry will investigate the problem as soon as possible.

Hi Morten,
Funny thing is I had about 2 hours on Lumion yesterday without a hitch.

Hi Morten,
Yes, I sent another crash report to Ferry yesterday. (29th)

You mentioned that earlier versions of Lumion worked fine (I can see that you previously used 2.1 Build 1 without problems).
And you're 100% sure that you didn't change any hardware or software (apart from installing BitTorrent and Lumion 2.1 B3) since then?
Ferry says that the best (but most labour-intensive) way to find out if the problem is caused by other software or hardware (such as tablets etc) is to temporarily install Windows 7 and Lumion 2.1 Build 3 on a spare harddrive (if you've got one). Perhaps it's also a good idea to download a fresh version of Lumion (not the bittorrent version).
Make sure you don't connect any other input devices/hardware, ie, avoid installing any drivers for "unusual"/non-standard hardware; you only want a basic Windows 7 64-bit installation with Lumion 2.1 Build 3.
The goal is basically to reduce the number of software/hardware elements that can interfere, and once you know that a certain configuration works flawlessly, you can start to add more software/hardware elements, one by one until it starts to occur again. Although it is pretty tedious, this procedure will eventually allow you to isolate the cause of the problem.
However, if it still stops responding, even with a basic Windows/Lumion installation, it is most likely a hardware issue, and ideally, you should then try to swap your graphics card and test it again. As your FurMark test demonstrated this is probably not the case.

I think it did actually crash with build 1 as well, though it wasn't on for long.
Thanks Morten, you have a busy time trying to solve everyone's problems! And I must say you do a fine job.
I'll give that idea a try.

I'll give that idea a try. It's a pretty drastic procedure, but hopefully it will help us find the true cause of the problem (unfortunately, the 2 dump files didn't provide any useful information). Do you remember if Lumion 2.0 also crashed/stopped responding sometimes?

Hi Morton,
No, Lumion 2 never crashed.

Hmm, and you're 100% sure that you didn't change any hardware or software (apart from installing BitTorrent and Lumion 2.1 B1 + B3) after you stopped using Lumion 2.0?
The reason I ask is that you mentioned that you used panning (ie, the middle mouse button) as well as ALT-copying when Lumion stopped responding. Do you remember if there was any software running in the background (or even hardware that was attached to your PC at the time) that might have reacted to those actions?

Hi Morten,
I'm pleased to report that I have had no further crashes with Lumion. Perhaps a file was corrupted? I have been working on some pretty large files (70 Mb Sketchup) with hundreds of lights and plants and not having any problems. I recently added another 8 Gb of RAM to my system but it hasn't made any difference to speed or performance.
