Hello,
I am new to Lumion, just downloaded the free version and I was wondering if there is any way to keep all the textures while importing the model from Studio Max ?
I tried importing also 3ds or fbx and didn't work.
Thank you.

Hi elfieee, Lumion can only import Standard 3DS Max materials.

Diffuse textures have to be assigned to the Diffuse Color map slot in 3DS Max.
Lightmaps (or dirt/detail textures) should be assigned to the Self-Illumination map slot.

Other texture map types such as normalmaps are not supported by the Lumion importer.

You can however assign normalmaps and specular/reflection maps to the model once you have imported it in Lumion.

If you're trying to import a scene with V-Ray materials, you need to convert all the materials to Standard materials before exporting your scene:

Morten, is it possible to convert Autodesk materials to Standard materials with this script? i work with fbx from Revit 2011, then import in Max 2011

could the vray map converter be done in the lumion importer in the future or is this impossible.
would be less work for us, cause we work with vray all the time..

could normal mapping be handled by the importer, too in the future ?

kind regards

Hi Nicholin, unfortunately AutoDesk started encrypting Mental Ray/"Protein 2" materials in Revit 2011 and 2012, so as far as I know you can't use these materials in non-AutoDesk products after exporting the model to FBX format. Never say never though - perhaps someone in the forum has been able to transfer textures from the AutoDesk material library to other applications such as Lumion?

For the time being, Artur's Collada exporter for Revit 2012 is the best way to export as much of the original scene as possible (including textures). It is available in the Customer Area.

I'll let Artur answer those questions.
